Six Feet Up Now an E-Rate Provider

March 10, 2011

Six Feet Up, a WBE-certified woman-owned company that develops and hosts custom open source web applications, has received approval as an E-Rate provider by the Universal Service Administration Company (USAC). As a result, schools and libraries that host their websites and web applications with Six Feet Up may be eligible for discounts subsidized under this government program.

E-rate is the common name for the Schools and Libraries Universal Service Support Mechanism, an initiative of the Federal Communications Commission whereby schools can receive help obtaining affordable internet access - particularly in rural areas. It is funded from universal service fees originally designed to make local telephone service available to all Americans at reasonable rates. Discounts are determined by USAC depending on the level of property and the urban/rural status of the population served and range from 20% to 90% of the costs of eligible services. Most schools and libraries in the United States are eligible to participate in the E-Rate program.
