IEEE IT Society to Boost Hosting Capabilities To Address Traffic Increase
The IEEE's Information Theory Society (ITSOC) website has been growing in both content and members since its launch in 2008.
The adoption of the open source content management sytem Plone has been so successful that the site, originally hosted on a VPS, started experiencing some performance issues as the number of student members soared. As a result, the ITSOC site started using more than their allotted 10GB of disk space.
In an effort to reduce costs associated with disk overages, Six Feet Up will be migrating ITSOC's site to a new virtual machine. "Our new Cloud 6 hosting option offers tremendously more than our traditional VPS plans," explains Michelle Jarvi, Project Manager at Six Feet Up.
The new hosting environment will give the non-profit 50GB of disk space (or 5 times their previous allotment), 2GB RAM (versus 500MB previously), 2 virtual CPU's, and 100GB bandwidth for a price increase of just $31 more per month as opposed to hundreds of dollars in overages.
