Automation in the Modern Enterprise with BlueCat

In a recent episode of the Gestalt IT On-Premise IT Roundtable Podcast, “Battling Datacenter Dragons: Recovering Tribal Knowledge and Enterprise Applications Delivery with BlueCat,” Calvin Hendryx-Parker (Six Feet Up’s CTO and AWS Community Hero) joins moderator Tom Hollingsworth (Network Analyst for Gestalt IT), Chris Grundemann (CTO of United Integrity Networks) and Andrew Wertkin (Chief Strategy Officer at BlueCat) to discuss why robots won’t replace IT practitioners. Specifically, the group dove into how “tribal knowledge” separates humans from robots’ scripts/shells and how BlueCat’s intelligent automation fits into the puzzle.

“The enterprise change management processes that previously delivered stability in the applications and network will need to adapt and be more agile,” said Calvin. “Enterprises will have to think differently about how they deploy and scale these applications.”

What does this mean for IT job security? Calvin explained: “The world of automation is going to enhance the current abilities of IT workers and free up their brain cycles so that they can focus on higher-value tasks, such as innovating business processes.”

In the podcast, the panel also discussed:

  • an enterprise’s ability — or lack of — to execute automation and application delivery in a way that doesn’t rely on a single “memory keeper,”
  • the role of IT practitioners in an automated work environment, and
  • best practices for organizations embarking on their datacenter automation journeys.
