What works with Plone 4?

written by thomas, on Jul 9, 2010 9:23:00 AM.

Plone 4 is about to be released and only a few products have been tested from a compatibility standpoint.

As part of the plan to update our current Plone 3 demo instance to a Plone 4 based demo, I started to test some products in Plone4 and here is a quick tally of my findings. Basically I checked if I could add the product to the buildout, install it, and use it:

* Lineage (added, installed, used)

* Linguaplone (added, installed, used)
    * renders horrible with the sunburst theme

* PloneFormGen (added, installed, used)

* CacheSetup (added, installed, didn't try)

* Products.Maps (added, installed, didn't try)

* Plone4Artists video (fail: product not compatible)
    * Tune-up announced

* Plone4Artists calendar (fail: product not compatible)

* Easyslideshow (fail: product not compatible)
    * Six Feet Up will be working on this product shortly.

Comments

  • Plone.Maps is not workiing with the sunburst theme. I believe CacheSetup is replaced with plone.app.caching.

  • RelStorage is working and the last getPaid versions didn't raise me any error for now. Collective.blog is to test.

  • Just FYI, plone.org/products?getCategories=&getCompatibility=Plone+4&path=%2Fplone.org%2Fproducts&portal_type=PSCProject lists all products that are currently marked by the authors as Plone 4 compatible. As of today, there are 169 product releases that are Plone 4 compatible, including many (but not all) of our most commonly-used products.

  • FWIW, as at 6 July 2010 (Plone 4.0b4), I found these didn't work:

    • Products.CacheSetup (Zope wouldn't start due to certain imports)
    • Products.PloneHelpCentre 3.0b3 (apparently branch in the works)
    • Products.Ploneboard 2.1b2 (apparently branch in the works)
    • Products.QuillsEnabled 1.7.0 (blogs can't be applied)
    • webcourtier.dropdownmenu 2.0 (breaks themes etc)

    and otherwise, these work/mostly work:

    • Products.Collage (mostly works, one minor issue with icons; reported to bug tracker)
    • collective.collage.portlets (seems okay)
    • collective.twitterportlet (seems okay and works)
    • collective.easyslider (apply slider to folders ok, and JS all working; actually better with adding slides than Plone 3)
    • plone.app.ldap (and associated underlying packages)

    Seems like a bit hit-and-miss for now.

  • Great news!

    collective.easyslideshow is a very cool product, could you put it in pypi too?

    • We are working on finalizing the tests and docs, then we plan on releasing it to the community.

  • PloneLDAP works fine, at least against OpenLDAP.
