Calvin Hendryx-Parker Looks Back on Career, Showcases Django Expertise on Django Chat

The dot-com bubble of the late 1990’s brought Calvin Hendryx-Parker, Six Feet Up’s CTO and AWS Community Hero, to San Francisco to begin his career in programming and the tech community. In 1999, Calvin and his wife — CEO and co-founder Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker — founded Six Feet Up. Then, in 2003, Calvin and Gabrielle relocated to Indiana to grow Six Feet Up into the Python and cloud expert consulting company it is today.

In Episode 87 of Django Chat, Calvin discusses:

  • his passion for open source technologies from Zope to Plone, Python and Django;
  • the Roaring 20s and Silicon Valley — complete with adult-sized tricycles;
  • the value of an engaged open source community and Six Feet Up’s role in fostering active communities via IndyPy, IndyAWS and the Python Web Conference; and
  • Six Feet Up’s Django expertise

In 2017, Six Feet Up completed its first Django project. Fast forward to 2020 — in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic — Calvin and the Six Feet Up team utilized Python and Django to create LoudSwarm by Six Feet Up, the highly engaging virtual event platform used to host DjangoCon Europe and the annual Python Web Conference
