Lineage Comes Out of Beta, Version 1.0 Now Available

Six Feet Up is pleased to announce that its popular add-on Lineage, the microsite creation product for Plone, has finally come out of beta and is now at version 1.0.

This new version of Lineage, which allows subfolders of a Plone site to appear as autonomous Plone sites to the everyday user, adds a whole host of additional features to allow site administrators to easily manage multiple, seemingly independent, sub-entity websites in a single Plone instance:

  • More flexibility: any folder type can become a child site now (not just the "Plone Folder" type), which means that even custom folders can be transformed into microsites;
  • Better usability: a new "isChildSite" helper method informs developers whether they are in a child site, allowing them to act accordingly;
  • Multilingual support: Lineage 1.0 now comes in German and Spanish;
  • Easier collaboration: Lineage 1.0's code and issue tracker have been moved to GitHub so that developers can contribute their patches back to the product and report issues more easily;
  • Enhanced reliability: Lineage 1.0 was subjected to updated infrastructure tests to ensure the product follows the latest best practices;
  • Increased compability: the version 1.0 now comes with Plone 4.2 support.

"Lineage has already been deployed in numerous production environments, such as University of Notre Dame, RES Software and IEEE, so this official 1.0 release will send the signal the add-on is definitely ready for sibling/child sites deployments", declared Six Feet Up CEO Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker.

The next round of enhancements to Lineage will focus on bringing real integration points between child and parent sites.
