RDF

Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a specification for describing metadata about resources. It serves as a basis for using the semantic web in content management systems and provides enhanced querying capabilities.

By providing a richer environment for describing complex applications and relationships, RDF can change developers and integrators' web experience and leverage standards like the Dublin Core.

Six Feet Up has implemented several projects using RDF and presented on the topic at multiple events.

Where might you encounter RDF?

  • RSS is an RDF application.
  • Mozilla uses RDF as their back-end data in their email client and browser.
  • The Creative Commons project, which produces technology for machine-readable copyright licenses, employs RDF to describe the various rights and restrictions for a particular license using a vocabulary that was developed by the project's legal wizards.
