IEEE Information Theory Society
The Information Theory Society (ITSOC) website illustrates how Plone can be customized to meet a specific set of needs.
The Information Theory Society (ITSOC) is an organization, within the framework of the IEEE, of members with principal professional interests in information theory. ITSOC contacted Six Feet Up to help with the architecture, development and deployment of their new corporate website.
One of the ITSOC project goals was to make it easier for the Society to manage various lists of members who are/have been contributing to the organization in any form or shape. As a result, visitors can now see who is the current President of the IT Society Board of Governors, as well as who was holding this position at any point in time.
In addition to keeping track of members titles and positions, the site records awards, papers and other publications related to each person. Looking up recipients of a specific award provides dynamic links to members' profile page. From there it is easy to review the contributions made by members to the organization, as well as see details such as who was an advisor to whom for a specific paper.
Papers also provide some bibliographic information that act as a teaser driving traffic to the main IEEE Xplore site where visitors can pay to download full papers.
On the administrative side of things, site managers can manage content and update information on behalf of other members. Specifically, the site acts as a central repository of information for recurring conferences and events organized by the IT Society.
