Help! My Site is Down!
If you notice that your site is down and have received no notifications of scheduled maintenance, please submit the following in an emergency support ticket.
- Ping - At the command prompt, type "ping yourdomain.com" (replacing "yourdomain.com" with your actual domain name). If your requests do not timeout, continue to the traceroute command below.
- Traceroute - At the command prompt, type "tracert yourdomain.com". If you are using Mac OS or Unix, use the "traceroute" command.
Having the ping and traceroute output sent to us will help us diagnose the problem with your site much more quickly. You may also contact us using the telephone number on our contact page.
How do I change my DNS settings?
If Six Feet Up controls the DNS for your site, then send a support ticket email to support with details on what you need to have changed and when, and we will make the changes for you. Please include any special instructions in your email that you feel will make the transition smoother.
If someone other than Six Feet Up controls your DNS, you will need to contact that company and ask them to transfer the DNS to you or Six Feet Up.
How can I see traffic statistics for my site?
Gathering statistics for later viewing can be done a couple of ways. Your first option is to ask to have Webalizer installed for your domain(s). This will add a STATS.yourdomain.com subdomain to your account. You'll visit this page to view your traffic statistics. Pricing for this option can be found in our Hosting Extras area. To get this turned on, simply send a request for additional features to our support department and we will install this and configure it for you.
A free alternative is Google Analytics. This is a completely free service to you. All you will need to do is install the small snippet of code as per the directions on the Google Analytics site.
Do you support blogs?
Six Feet Up does not have a single "approved" blog package that we use. Rather, we support a range of technologies that may or may not be used by the blog package you were looking to use. If you are still unsure about your specific situation, send your question to our support department. We'll address your specific question and have you blogging in no time.
What versions of Plone do you support?
We support any version of Plone that our customer needs. The exception to this is if there is a known security issue for a specific version. In this case, we'll install the patch or roll up to the next highest stable version with no known security problems. In short, we try to accommodate your needs.
How long has Six Feet Up been in business?
Six Feet Up has been in business and growing since 1999.
What security features do you provide?
At Six Feet Up we are committed to providing you the most secure services available. Here are just a few of the important security features you will find when you host your site with us.
- Our co-location provider only allows authorized access to the servers. This means only approved individuals can gain access to a given machine and our co-location provider has 100% video surveillance set up to monitor and record all on site activity.
- For management a unique user name and password is required. This keeps all other users on the machine from being able to access other information.
- The server itself also has only a minimum number of ports and services running from it. This helps cut down on the amount of exposure to publicly accessible services and resources.
- We have automated services to help keep track of automated login attack attempts that would help us know when the security of the machine has been compromised.
- We have an automated backup system that would be able to restore your site in the event of a catastrophic loss of the data on your machine. We pull a full backup once a week and pull differentials on all other days.

What is the difference between a Virtual Private Server and a shared hosting environment?
A Virtual Private Server, or VPS, is physical server that has been partitioned into multiple virtual servers. Each of these virtual servers can operate as an independent entity, even though they share the same physical box. Each virtual server can have its own operating system and be rebooted without affecting the other servers.
A shared hosting environment is a server that contains multiple websites. Each person only has access to their home directory and their instance folder. All websites will be run on the same operating system. The administrator does not have control over the server and cannot configure any settings like caching or proxy.
How do I get support?
If you are having issues with your hosting or website, you can submit a support ticket by emailing us at support@sixfeetup.com. Support emails are logged in our ticket tracking system and our Technical Services staff is notified immediately. The Technical Services staff responds to tickets based on the severity of the issues and the order they are received. Phone calls are also welcome during business hours, but you will still be asked to fill out a support ticket.
If you have an emergency, you should submit an emergency ticket by using the emergency contact form. Once the emergency contact form is submitted, the on call technician is notified and will respond to you within one hour of receiving the ticket.
